Welcome to LaughLovers.us — We are a specialty Toastmasters club formed in honor of the late John Cantu.
Our focus: adding more humor to our speeches, stories and lives.
This is not your father's Toastmasters Club. We feature "headliners" -- professional speakers, comedians, storytellers or humorists -- who give a guest presentation each month at the Club. It's our opportunity to see how the pros do it and ask them questions about how to create, craft and deliver their material. Then members perform, to practice skills and get supportive feedback from the group.
We meet once a month on the third Sunday of the month, 6pm - 8pm, St. Paul's Towers (100 Bay Place), Oakland, CA.
So come and join us — the laugh's on us!
Meanwhile, persue our website, read articles, listen to audio and video files and support the headliners who generously give their time and expertise to Toastmasters.

Singer-Songwriter & Comedienne
Laren Mayer
"The Return of Psycho Mom!"
Musical Musings on marriage,
motherhood, and politics

The Program:
Humorist and songwriter Lauren Mayer takes a light-hearted, slightly warped look at the challenges of modern life - managing her 3 boys (2 teenagers and a husband), dealng with sleep-deprivation and stress, and her realization that instead of yelling at t.v. newscasters and the newspaper, a better coping mechanism is to write a weekly topical comedy songs for her youTube channel, where her hits have included "Oh Won't You Put Me In Your Binder Full Of Women" (from the election meme), "Why Are The Kardashians Famous?," and "The Sequester Rag."

The Presenter:
Lauren Mayer, a past LaughLover headliner, began playing the piano at age 3 and discovered her penchant for writing comedy songs shortly thereafter. Her early influences included Alan Sherman, Dr. Demento, and Tom Lehrer (which explains her slightly warped sense of humor).
After graduating from Yale summa cum laude, Lauren spent 5 years in New York being a starving artist, singing on street corners, writing songs and thoroughly disappointing her parents. She then moved to San Francisco to meet straight men, where she became a fixture on the piano bar & cabaret scene, winning 5 SF Cabaret Gold awards and tens of fans.
For the past 25 years Lauren has written and performed customized shows for corporate clients and private parties (and if you're doing the math, just assume she started when she was 10). She has written seven published children's musicals, released four albums of kids' music and three comedy CDs, created and performed a one-woman show, and won numerous songwriting and performing awards. Despite all these impressive accomplishments, Lauren's mother still doesn't understand why she didn't go to law school.
